New Zealand won Chappell-Hadlee Trophy 2016

The New Zealand team has defeated the Australian Cricket in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy on February 8 2016. The series was clinched 2-1 as the home side managed to defeat the Australians by 55 runs in the third ODI. The series also marked farewell for Brendon McCullum, who had earlier announced his retirement from One-Day Internationals in 2015. The match was played at Seddon Park and the Man of the Match award was given to Inderbir Sodhi for his outstanding bowling figure of 31-2 in 8 overs.

South Asian Wrestling Federation is Brij Bhushan Singh as the President

On February 5 2016, Brij Bhushan Singh was appointed as the President of South Asian Wrestling Federation. The selection process was made through unanimous election. In addition to this selection, Tabiur Rehman of Bangladesh was also elected as the General Secretary of SAWF.

Indian handloom tag for Chettinad Cotton Saree

The Chettinad Cotton Saree has successfully registered itself in the Indian Handloom tag. The inclusion came due to the unique design of the saree along with its identity. The saree is also known by the name of kandaangi and is made up of vibrant colors.

TERI’s new Executive Vice Chairman- Rajendra K Pachauri

The Ex-Director of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), Rajendra K Pachauri has now been appointed as the Executive Vice Chairman of the same organization. He is the first person to hold this seat as prior to him, the post did not existed. In 1982, Pachauri had joined TERI under the role of a Director and since then, he has managed to work dedicatedly to reach his current position as of today.

Sonadia Island Port Project cancelled

Bangladesh recently declined China’s proposal to develop a sea port in an island which is situated in the Bay of Bengal. The project named as ‘Sonadia Island Port’ was in the news recently due its plan to create a sea port in an island which falls in the Bay of Bengal. The cancellation has come from the side of Bangladesh as the development would have caused a threat to India’s maritime. Instead, Bangladesh is now working with establishing Indo-Bangladesh ties as India is helping Bangladesh to develop its newest port at Payra.

Operation Rahaat to be studied by Royal Navy

The Royal Navy of the United Kingdom has expressed its eagerness to study operation Rahaat, the rescue operation which India has operated to save Indians in Yemen. The operation involved rescuing 5600 people, out of which 960 people belonged from other countries. The whole arrangement was completed with a matter of 10 days. Inclusion of Airbus A320 plane and two vessels- Coral and Kavaratti, had helped the people trapped in Yemen to make a safe return to India.

PM Shram Awards 2014

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced PM Shram Awards for 2014 on February 9 2016. There were a total of 32 awards which was given to 54 people. The award is offered to people who have valuable contributions in the private sector and the public sector.
