UP Land Revenue Act comes into force

On February 11 2016, UP LRA (Land Revenue Act) 2015 finally came into force and has resulted in replacement of as many as 39 old acts in relation to revenue. The act has also come as an upgrade for Land Reform Act 1950 and Land Revenue Act 1901. These two acts are no longer valid. One of the key highlights of this act is that now Dailts can easily sell off their existing land to non dalits without having obtained any approval from the administration. The introduction was made by UP CM Akhilesh Yadav. The act also contains equal rights for women in case of gram samaj land.

HealthPlan Services acquired by Wipro at INR 3150 crore

Wipro, on February 2016, placed a proposal to acquire HealthPlan Services at USD 460 million. The proposal is currently under customary regulatory and the decision will reflect within a period of 60 to 90 days. The deal will allow Wipro to acquire 100% shares of the aforesaid company and the deal will strengthen the hold of India’s third largest software company to enhance its business marketing strategies in the US. HealthPlan is a US based company with its headquarters in Florida and has been operating since 1970.

Framework to combat Malaria launched by Health Minister

The Health Minster of India, Prakash Nadda, launched a new framework to combat malaria under NFME (National Framework for Malaria Elimination). The framework has a span of 15 years and will be effective from 2016 to 2030. The framework has a definite set of goals, targets, objective and strategies to overcome malaria and eliminate the cases of malaria by 2030. By 2024, the cases under Malaria in India is planned to go below 1%. The framework operates on time based objectives under the every 2-3 years till 2030.

Soviet Unions’ football legend passed away

Anatoli Ilyin, the Soviet footballer passed away on February 10 2016 at the age of 84 years. He was the first person to score a goal in the EUFA European Championship in 1956. In a career which was spread over 30 years, Anatoli had scored 106 goals which also included being the top scorer to season 1954 & 1958. His career also included a place in the FIFA World Cup under the Soviet team, where he had scored 16 goals in between 1952 to 1959.

4 Indian-Americans elected to NAE of US

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) now consists of 4 Indian-Americans, who are engineers by profession. The event took place on February 8 2016 where exceptional contributions in the field of engineering were being acknowledged. The four people are- Dr. K R Sridhar, Anil K Jain, Ganesh Thakur and Dr. Arati. NAE is a non-profit organization which appreciates the contributions of engineers and helps them to continue with their research and developments. Currently, the organization has a total of 2275 members belonging to US origin and 232 belonging to other nations.
