UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination is commonly known as UPSC IFS Exam. It is combined competitive exam held all over India by Union Public Service Commission during the month of July. UPSC IFS Exam Eligibility Criteria 2016

The eligibility criteria as prescribed in UPSC past notification is given below. But if there is any change or amendments, you have to read the new notification regarding eligibility criteria for UPSC IFS Exam. There are various eligibility conditions mentioned in the official notification like age limit, minimum education qualification , number of attempts and physical standards etc.

  • Age Limit : The age limit as prescribed by UPSC in the previous official notification for Indian Forest Service Exam is 21 to 30 years as on 1 st July of the relevant year. The upper age limit relaxation will also be applicable as per the Government reservation rules.
  • Minimum Education Qualification : As you all know the graduation /bachelor’s degree is required to apply for UPSC IFS exam. But you should also know that the bachelor’s degree must be cleared with one of the subjects named Animal Husbandry, Physics, Statistics and Zoology, Agriculture, Forestry, Engineering etc.
  • Number of Attempts: There are very much important to mention that you have not unlimited attempts to apply for the UPSC IFS exams . The candidates who belong to general categories only have 6 attempts to apply for IFS exam. The schedules caste’s category have unlimited attempts to apply. If you belong to OBC category then you can apply only for 9 times.  (as per the new notification 2015).
  • Physical Standards : There are some physical standards as prescribed in the Official notification by UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination. So you have to fit according to those particular standards. It has very detail rules and regulation. So you can refer notification to read more about physical standards.

UPSC IFS Exam Pattern & Selection Procedure 2016

Indian Forest Service Examination consist of two stages i.e. preliminary and main exam. The civil services (preliminary) examination (objective type) will be held for the screening and selection of the candidates for Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination.  After passing preliminary exam you will go through Indian Forest Service (Main Examination which consists written test and interview .

(i) Preliminary Examination: The exam will have two papers, which are compulsory, and having 200 marks each. The duration of each paper will be of 2 hours. Extra time of 20 minutes will be available for blind candidates.

(ii) Main Examination : The following papers will be held for the Main IFS Exam.

Paper I -> General English -> 300 marks

Paper II -> General Knowledge -> 300 marks

Paper III, IV, V & VI – Any two subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects set out below. Each subject will have two papers. -> 200 marks each

The syllabus for optional subject is based on the Bachelors Degree and lowers than the Master Degree .

(iii) Interview for Personality Test: 300 marks

Optional Subjects for UPSC IFS Exam

The number of questions will be eight for the optional subjects. The Part A and Part B will be provided in the paper and having 4 questions in each part. One question in each part will be compulsory and five questions are to be attempted out of eight questions. All eight questions have equal marks.

  • Agriculture
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
  • Botany
  • Chemistry
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Forestry
  • Geology
  • Mathematics
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Physics
  • Statistics
  • Zoology
  • Provided that the candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combination of subjects:
  • Agricultural and Agricultural Engineering
  • Agricultural and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
  • Chemistry and Chemical Engg.
  • Mathematics and Statistics.
  • Of the Engineering subjects viz. Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering – not more than one subject;

  • All the question papers for the examination are of conventional (essay) type.
  • All Question Papers must be answered in English.
  • The duration of each of the papers referred to above is three hours.
