Aroon Tikekar, Veteran journalist passes away
Known scholar and senior journalist Aroon Tikekar, who was suffering from serious respiratory complications passed away. The incident happened on January 19 th 2016 in the city of Mumbai. Tikekar was 72 and had been suffering due to his health issues. He was one of the celebrated journalists and scholars and had written more than 20 books. During his initial years, Aroon Tikekar worked as college professor after which he worked at the US congress Library office at New Delhi . After that he worked for many big brands such as Times, Loksatta etc. He has been honoured with many journalism and literary awards.
Global Talent- Competitiveness Index for 2015-2016 launched by INSEAD
INSEAD is a globally renowned and leading graduate business institute, also one of largest infrastructure wise. On 19 th January, INSEAD announced launch of its Global Talent- Competitive Index (GTCI) for the year a2015-16. It was released in the city of Davos, Switzerland during the forty-sixth annual WEF (World Economic Forum) Summit. This report measures the competitive capability of 109 nations across the world and has been prepared keeping two themes namely, International Mobility and Talent Attraction, in mind. The report also focusses on important correlation between economic prosperity and talent movement.
New report on the richest individuals on earth released by Oxfam
On 18 th January Oxfam published a report named ‘An Economy for the 1%’. This report analyses the growing trends related to the wealth concentration across the globe as well as suggests remedies for correction of this anomaly. Apart from that, the report also focuses on the speculation that over the past few years, the wealthiest one percentile has accumulated more amount of wealth compared to the entire globe put together. The major highlight of the report was that the amount of wealth of 62 wealthiest individuals is equal to 3.6 billion individuals on this planet, the latter being bottom half.
Jehan Daruwala from India wins Lady Wigram award in motor racing
Jehan Daruvala, a Sahara (Force India) Academy racer won the most prestigious trophy of New Zealand, Lady Wigram Award in the motor racing event on 16 th January 2016. It was also Jehan’s first ever victory in the Formula cars’ category after making a turnaround from his previous interest karting in the year 2015. Daruvala in the year 2015 won the Rookie award at the NEC series (Formula Renault 2.0) that was held in Netherlands. Wigram Trophy is a motorsport award from New Zealand.
IRNSS-1E satellite successfully launches PSLV-C31
ISRO (The Indian Space Research Organisation) on January 20 th 2016 successfully inaugurated the IRN (Satellite System) 1-E satellite. The main features of this satellite will be providing navigation, tracking as well as mapping of services towards the southern hemisphere, Indian subcontinent. This satellite became the fifth in line of IRNSS constellations. The launch was done in the city of Sriharikota in AP by SHAR (Satish Dhawan Space Centre). This satellite launch marked the 32 nd successful PSLV mission. For this mission, PSLV ‘XL’ configuration was used.
