Dubai ATP Tennis title goes to Wawrinka
On February 28 2016, Stanislas Wawrinka won his 9 th final to credit the Dubai ATP Tennis title. The game took place in between Marcos Baghdatis and Stanislas Wawrinka, where the former was defeated in the sets of 6-4 and 7-6. This is was the third time that Wawrinka had participated in the Dubai ATP Tennis Championship and prior to this, the winner had failed to win even a single match during the tournament.
Sale of Army Uniforms banned in Punjab
The Government of Punjab on February 28 2016, imposed a ban on activities which relates to sale of army uniform. The ban has been put all across the state and any desirous person who wants to have the army uniform needs to submit his ID proof and phone number with the authorized shopkeeper. The seller of the dress is also required to maintain a register and track all the sale of such army dresses. The law is applicable till April 21 2016 and the later course of action will be decided by the authority later on. The decision came shortly after the infamous Pathankot terror attack.
UG approves Constitution of Banks, BBB
Narendra Modi, PM of India, gave approval for development of BBB (Banks Board Bureau) on February 28 2016. The BBB will start its functioning from April 1 2016. The objective behind this establishment is to enhance the governance of the PSB (Public Sector Banks). Some of the key members in this unit are Anil K Khandelwal, Rupa Kudwa and HN Sinor. Focus on merger and acquisitions will also be an integral part of the BBB.
National Science Day Celebrations
February 28 2016 was observed as the National Science Day across India. This year’s theme was Scientific Issues, which were considered for the development of the nation. The day is celebrated with a view to acknowledge the development of Raman Effect, discovered by Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. For this contribution, Raman was also offered a Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 1930. There is also a similar day known by the name of World Science Day, which is celebrated on November 10. The day was established by the UNSECO in 2001.
Comedian Kumarimuthu passed away
The Tamil movie comedian, Kumarimuthu passed away on February 28 2016 at the age of 77 years. He was also a member of DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) party. He made his debut in 1978 with the movie Ival Oru Seethai and ever since, had acted in more than 500 movies. His last movie was Villu released in 2009. Some of this most noticeable contributions were Idhayam, Aanazhagan and Oomai Vizhgal.
Kosovo’s new President- Hashim Thaci
On February 26 2016, Kosovo elected its new President in Hashim Thaci. He succeeded Atifete Jahjaga and was selected amidst of the protest which was following his appointment. Kosova was declared as independent in 2008 from Serbia and has been recognized as an independent country by the United States.
