UltraTech acquires Jaiprakash Associates units

On February 28 2016, UltraTech Cement entered into a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with JPA for acquisition of cement plants valued at INR 16500 crore. The plants are situation in regions such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand , Karnataka , Himachal Pradesh , Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh . This deal will also witness an additional payment of INR 470 crore by UltraTech cement for completion of grinding units.

First All India Snooker Championship won by Rahul Sachdev

February 29 2016 witnessed the first champion of All India Open Invitational Snooker Championship in the form of Rahul Sachdev. The tournament took place in Aurangabad, Maharashtra . The finalist were Pushpender Singh and Rahul Sachdev, where the former was defeated with a score of 5-3. Earlier Rahul was stood as a runner up in 2013.

International Awards for IGI airport

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) received 3 international awards on February 29 2016. The list of awards also includes the award for best airport by size for the region of Asia Pacific Region. IGIA is currently being managed by Delhi International Airport, which is a venture between AAI, Fraport and GMR Group.

On February 26 2016, Twitter launched a new campaign under the name #PositionOfStrength dedicated towards women empowerment. The campaign has been specifically created with a view to promote women freedom and offer resistance against gender discrimination. The campaign was first run in Australia, followed by Ireland. However, this was the first time that Asia has opted for such a campaign for women. Another aspect of this development was to bring equality in online participation.

George Kennedy passed away

On February 28 2016, George Kennedy passed away at the age of 91. George was a noted actor and had won an Oscar in 1968 for the movie Dragline (Best Supporting Actor). His contribution has also credited him with an Academy Award in the 1960s. His established acting career saw him in serious roles at most of the times. However, he too entered the comedy stream through movies such as Captain Ed Hocken.

Armaan Ebrahim shines at FMSCI Motorsports

On February 28 2016, Armaan Ebrahim received the prestigious award for Man-of-the-Year at the FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India). During the ceremony, Armaan was offered INR 2 lacs in cash and a Trophy for his contribution in the LBSTAS (Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series). Armaan started his career in 2004 and moved on to BMW Asia in 2005.

President Pranab Mukherjee announced Kerala as 1st Digital State

On February 27 2016, President Pranab Mukherjee officially announced Kerala to be the first digital state in India. This announcement also came up with inaugurations such as development of an IT park under ULCCS, Cyber Park and Kanivu Scheme. The state is also equipped with mobile tele-density of 95% and covers about 60% of the total population in the region of Kerala.
