Nepal and India sign seven agreements for development
On February 20 2016, Nepal and India signed seven agreements in a bilateral cooperation to strengthen their relation. The agreement included a plan to utilize the grant of USD 250 million which was offered by India to Nepal when it hit by the disastrous Earthquake in 2015. The parties who had signed the agreement were- The Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The event took place in India during a five-day tour by the Nepal PM.
Ronnie O’Sullivan takes Welsh Open 2016
The snooker legend, Ronnie O’Sullivan won the Welsh Open 2016 on February 21 2016 after defeating Neil Robertson in the finals held in Wales, England. During the first phase of the match Ronnie was trailing behind at 3-5, however, in the later sets Ronnie won seven straight frames to conquer the title. The final score was 9-5 and Ronnie became the second player to have 4 Welsh Open titles to his credit. Earlier, John Higgins was the only one to hold this record. Ronnie O’Sullivan is often called a ‘genius’ for his gifted abilities in snooker.
Punjab Warriors win Hockey Indian League 2016
The 2016 edition of HIL (Hockey India League) was won by Punjab Warrior, after they defeated Kalinga Lancers in the finals. The event took place on Munda Hockey Stadium, Ranchi, where the winners took an invincible lead of 6-1. To present the trophy, the Jharkhand CM, Raghubar Das was present. The player of the tournament award went to Rupinder Pal Singh ( Delhi ) and the Man of the Match Award went to Mark Knowles (Punjab).
Rurban Mission launched in Chhattisgarh
On February 21 2016, Chhattisgarh witnessed a fresh initiative launched by the PM of India, Narendra Modi, for the purpose of developing smart villages and reducing the impact of migration. The name of the initiative is Rurban Mission and it looks forwards to make technological developments in backwards area of Chhattisgarh. A total of 16 village panchayats have been kept under the purview of this initiatives and includes names such as Pipariya, Bhandarpur, Kurrubhat and Jamri. The event also witnessed the felicitation of a 104-year old woman, who had previously joined the Swachh Bharat initiative and built toilets.
February 21 celebrated as International Mother Language Day
On February 21 2016, the world celebrated International Mother Language Day and this year’s theme focused upon quality education and understanding outcomes. The objective of this day is to spread education and promote the language which is spoken by groups in minority. The day continued to be celebrated from 2000 when UNESCO decided to promote languages which were previously neglected. Celebration of this day has allowed many people to come up with their mother language and spread an awareness of the same. The intent of this day is also to promote equality in use of language and promote better understanding among people from all over the world.
