Pakistan build World’s first Parliament to run on solar power

The Pakistani Parliament became the first Parliament in the world which runs entirely on solar power. The event took place on February 23 2016 and the inauguration took place in the hands of the Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif. The potential of the solar power generator offers a total of 80 MW, out of which 62 MW is for the Parliament and another 18 MW is for the national grid. The project was announced in 2014 and was ventured by China at a cost of USD 55 million.

SAARC Swap extended by RBI

The Reserve Bank of India made a promising impact in the SAARC Swap Arrangement on February 23 2016 by extending the same till November 14 2017. The current valuation of the SAARC Swap Arrangement is USD 2 billion. The objective behind this move was to enhance the cooperation between SAARC nations and create a financial stability among all member nations. The arrangement was initially started in November 15 2012 and the objective was to offer financial support to countries such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Bhutan, etc.

Approval for Metro Rail in Guwahati

The Assam cabinet offered an approval to a detailed project which looked forward to build a metro in the city of Guwahati. The approval from the Cabinet came on February 23 2016 and hence. GMRCL (Guwahati Metro Rail Corporation Limited) would now begin the process of construction. The foundation stone of the project will be laid by the state CM Tarun Gogoi on February 29 2016. The whole project will cover an area of 203 kms and there would be 54 stations which would be covered by the Metro Railway . The estimated cost of this project will be around INR 18020.

KN Vyas is the new Director of BARC

On February 23 2016, KN Vyas took over as the Director of BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre). He replaced Dr. Sekhar Basu, who at the moment occupies the seat of the Chairman of AEC (Atomic Energy Commission) and the Secretary of UG under the Department of Atomic Energy. KN Vyas is vastly experienced in the field of nuclear science and has been working with them for the past 36 years.

Sagar Sarhadi to get Lifetime Achievement Award

One of finest scriptwriter of India, Sagar Sarhadi would be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in IFFP (International Film Festival of Prayag). The event will take place on Allahabad from February 26 to 28 2016. Born in Pakistan, Sarhadi started his career with small stories and eventually moved on to writing scripts. One of this most popular contribution came through Bazaar which starred Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil and Farooq Sheikh. His life transformed after the success of Yash Chopra’s Kabhi Kabhi, in which Sagar Sarhadi had contributed as a playwriter. The event IFFP will be having its second edition this year. During the first year, Bollywood actor Om Puri was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
