Guinness Record for writing 3524 songs goes to Sameer Anjaan

On February 17 2015, the renowned Bollywood song writer, Sameer Anjaan made an entry into the Guinness book of World Records for contributing to 3524 compositions as on December 15 2015. With participation in more than 650 Bollywood movies, Sameer has become the first person in the respective category to hold such a record. His career began in 1983, when he contributed to a Bollywood movie named as Bekhabar. Some of his most popular works came in movies like Aashiqui and Dil. His list of achievements also include numerous Filmfare Awards from 1990 to 1994.

Amit Mitra, WB Finance Minister, becomes the Chairman of GST Committee

On February 19 2016, the current Finance Minister of West Bengal, Amit Mitra, was appointed as the Chairman of GST (Goods and Service Tax). The appointment took place as a replacement for Kerala FM K M Mani, who was previously forced to vacate his seat after being proved as corrupt. The role of Amit Mitra would be frame out rules on GST, inclusive of indirect taxes and combine the same under one regiment.

State Budget 2016-17 for Jharkhand presented

Jharkhand CM, Raghubar Das, presented the State Budget for Jharkhand on February 19 2016 in the Legislative Assembly. The whole proposal revolved around development in the sector of rural areas and agriculture in Jharkhand. The estimated budget for Jharkhand in the year 2016-17 is INR 63502.28 crore. The estimated revenue receipts has been computed close to INR 55756.42 for the aforesaid period along with an expenditure towards non-planned activities at INR 26437.34 crore. The budget also witnessed an increase of INR 1 crore in MLA’s local are development program, which was previously at INR 3 crore. Some of the key highlights of this budge was- engineering college for every 20 lakh students, 71 smart Police Stations, 24 hours of electricity supply thorugh solar panels, etc.

Christine Lagarde appointed as MD of IMF for the second time

On February 19 2016, the Executive Board of IMF (International Monetary Fund) re-appointed Christine Lagarde as the Managing Director for the second time. Her tenure will continue for another five years. During the appointed process, Lagarde was the only candidate who was seen as a contender for the post and was supported by the representatives of countries such as China, Germany and the UK. Christine is a lawyer by profession, who later on turned into a political figure and has been an integral part of the IMF since July 2011.

Indian Women Cricket Team White-washed Sri Lanka Women Cricket Team

On February 19 2016, the final ODI between India Women and Sri Lanka Women cricket team was won by India, where the host defeated the visitors by 7 wickets. The defeat resulted in a 3-0 white wash. Bowling first, Indian pacer Deepti Sharma took six wickets to restrict Sri Lanka to a low score and in the second innings, Veda Krishnamurthy scored a 50+ score to guide her team to a well-deserved victory.
