Ranjit Trophy won by Mumbai
Mumbai registered its 41 st title win in the Ranjit Trophy on February 26 2016. The win came over the Saurashtra, who were defeated by an innings and 21 runs. In the finals, Mumbai opted to bat first and scored 371 in their first innings. Saurashtra struggled in both their innings and ended up scoring 235 & 115 in the first and second innings, respectively. Shreyas Iyer from Mumbai was named Man of the Match.
Movie ‘Neerja’ becomes tax free in UP and Delhi
The UP Government and Delhi Government have declared Neerja to be tax free in their respective state. The movie was recently launched and is a bio-pic made on an airhostess, who sacrificed her life to save 350 passengers during a plane hijack in 1986. Maharashtra and Gujarat were the first two states to declare this movie as tax-free. The movie has been directed by Ram Madhvani and has Sonam Kapoor in the lead role.
Gujarat presented its State Budget 2016-17
February 24 2016 witnessed the State Budget for Gujarat 2016-17. The budget was presented by the State CM, Anandiben Patel with a plan of INR 85557.78 crores. The focus of the budget looked forward to encompass almost every section, including, women, infrastructure and youth. Some of the key developments were: MYSY (Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana), MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise), GIDCs (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporations), Nari Adalat, etc. A budget of INR 23815.74 crore has been fixed towards the development of infrastructure and education within the region of Gujarat. Additionally, prior attention was given to farmers. INR 14494 crore has been allocated towards improving the irrigation facility along with setting up channels to improve the agricultural productivity.
Bihar presented its State Budget 2016-17
Bihar CM, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, presented the State Budget on February 24 2016, with an estimate of INR 144696 crore. The figure is higher by INR 24010.95 crores as compared to the budget presented by Bihar in 2015-16. The budget is encompassing areas such as education, health and infrastructure development, but there is no sign of any new taxation for the upcoming period. Out of the given budget, education development would consume INR 21897.02 crore, energy sector would consume INR 14367.87 crore, health sector would consume INR 8234.7 crore and other road constructions would consume INR 5954 crore. The budget also looks forward to help the unemployed youth between 20-25 years with INR 1000 per month (for 2 years) as an allowance to search for a decent job.
MP presented its State Budget 2016-17
MP Finance Minister, Jayant Malaiya, presented State Budget for the period 2016-17 with an estimate of INR 158713.04 crore. The prospects of the budget included reduction in VAT (for selected products). Allocation of the budget includes investment of INR 5521.01 crore for Agricultural development, INR 7494.92 for development of irrigation, INR 233.61 crore for development of Science and technology, INR 303496.91 for social services and INE 4658.18 for development of transportation facility.
