Poet ONV Kurup passed away

The Malayalam contemporary poet, ONV Kurup passed away of February 13 2016 at the age of 84. His contribution was acknowledged by Jnanpith award. Born on May 1931, Kurup started his career from a Government School and went on to pursue graduation in Economics from SN College. After completion of study, his began his career as a teacher and often visited Calicut University as a professor. In 1986, he retired from his role and began to focus on his literary work. In 1998, he was honoured with a Padam Shri award and in 2011 he was given Padma Vibhusan. Some of his most commendable work was in the form of Dahikunna Panapatram, Porutunna Soundaryam and Munnottu.

Mega Food Park inaugurated in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh got its first ever mega food park on February 12 2016 at Panwa Village. The inauguration took place in the presence of harsimrat Kaur Badal, who also happens to be the Minister of Food Processing Industries of India. The approximate cost of the setup was close to INR 127.70 crore and the park is setup in an area of 53.78 acres. The park is expected to generate employment for 6000 people along with offering work to about 30000 farmers under the catchment area. The primary objective of this campaign is to eradicate the post harvesting loss under non-horticulture and horticulture produce.

World Radio Day

February 13 2016 marked the presence of World Radio Day. The theme for this year was Radio in Times of Emergency and Disaster. This day was celebrated in all over India with the discussion- Importance of Radio in daily life. Odisha had conducted a 2-day international event and was inaugurated in Bhubaneswar.  The day is celebrated with a view to mark the first anniversary of radio broadcast by the United Nations in 1946. Last year’s theme for World Radio Day was Youth & Radio.

69 th British Academy Film Awards

The 69 th edition of BAFTA (British Academy Films Awards) as announced on 14 th February 2016. The agenda of the event was to acknowledge the contribution of British actors in films released in 2015. The event was hosted in London, at the Royal Opera House. The nominees for the various awards were released on January 8 2016 by Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Stephen Fry. The award for the best movie went to ‘The Revenant’ and Brooklyn won the award for the Outstanding British Film. Contributions like Inside Out and Amy were also awarded in the category of Best Animated Film and Best Documentary category, respectively.

PM inaugurated Make in India Week

From February 13 to February 18 2016, India will have the Make in India week which was inaugurated by the PM, Narendra Modi in Mumbai. The core areas of development for this period are innovation, sustainability and design which contributes to India’s manufacturing potential. The motive behind this launch is to attract foreign investment in India and people like PM of Finland, Deputy PM if Poland, etc., were also present during the event. Additionally, three MoUs were also signed during the launch.
