Shankar Ghosh, legendary Tabla player passed away
Shankar Ghosh, the prized table player from Bengal passed away on January 22 2016 in Kolkata at the age of 60 years. He was suffering from illness and was at his residence in Kolkata, West Bengal. The legendary figure lived with small family which included his wife, Sanjukta Ghosh, a vocalist, his son and daughter-in-law and two grandson. His achievements included a Sangeet Akademi Award in 2000 and ITC Sangeet Research Academy award. His work with Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ustad Pandit Ravi Shankar is still celebrated among classical music lovers. In his career, Shankar Ghosh aslo performed with western performers such as John Bergamo, Greg Ellis & Pete Lockett.
World Economic Situation and Prospects Report 2016 released by UNESCAP
UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific) has released a new document named as World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 report on January 19 2016. The document offers an analysis to people regarding the status of economies around the world. The report covers certain key sections such as the global growth, which is just 2.4% in 2015 along with capital outflows in the market. The expected growth rate in 2016 has been mentioned at 2.9% and for 2017 the rate jumps up to 3.2%.
Biennial Update Report submitted to UNFCCC by India
India submitted its first-ever Biennial Update Report to UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) on January 22 2015. The report presented the details which were required to be fulfilled by India under the convention. Impact of greenhouse gases, CO2 emission, energy sector emission, etc., were a part of consideration under this report. As per this report, India was responsible for emitting 2136.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gases in the year 2010.
GKP (Giriputrika Kalyana Pathakam) Scheme launched for tribal people
The Government of Andhra Pradesh Government has launched a new initiative named as GKP (Giriputrika Kalyana Pathakam) Scheme where tribal women would be supported by the AP Government to earn their livelihood. The scheme was inaugurated by Ravela Kishore Babu, the Minister of Social Welfare (Andhra Pradesh). The scheme includes a one-time payment facility of INR 50, 000 to every tribal women who will get married. However, the facility will be available to only those women who can produce documents like income certificate, marriage certificates and other essentials. The satisfying the basic clause, the amount will be dispensed to the respective bank account of the women.
Ranchi hoisted the largest Indian Flag
Manohar Parrikar, the Defence Minister of India, hoisted the largest Indian Flag along with the tallest flagpole in India on 23 January 2016. The day marks the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and in his honor Ranchi hoisted the Indian Flag measuring 66 feet in height and 99 feet in width. The flag was hoisted on a pole which measure 293 feet. The project took 140 days to complete along with the aid of 120 workers. The total expense behind this project was INR 1.25 crore.
