The UPSC NDS Exam 2016 carries a million hope as candidates look forward to be a part of the prestigious Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. However, before becoming an eligible candidate for the post, there are certain criteria which a candidate needs to follow. This article intends to put forward those eligibility criteria and remind all the candidate about the basic outline of the exam. The Eligibility Criteria for UPSC NDA exam 2016 is based on four sections, namely, Nationality Criteria, Age & Marital Status Criteria, Educational Qualification Criteria and Physical Fitness Criteria.
Nationality Criteria
This is the first criteria which every participating candidate needs to satisfy. Under this criteria, it is mandatory to ensure that the candidate belongs to one of the following sections-
a) A citizen of India,
b) A subject of Nepal,
c) A subject of Bhutan,
d) A person of Indian Origin who previously belonged from East Africa or any country included in the Indian sub-continent, including, Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, etc., and now intends to reside in India permanently.
e) A descendant of a Tibetan refugee whose ancestors had come to India before 1.1.1962 and have settled down in India, ever since.
Age & Marital Status Criteria
The second criteria is in terms of the age of the candidate. Only those people can apply who have been born in between 2 nd January 1998 to 1 st January 2001. Other than these people, no other candidates can apply. Under this post, benefits of reservation have been lifted and the criteria will stand same for all.
Taking consideration for the marital status, it is mandatory for all candidates to remain unmarried at the time of selection. Any candidate who is married will not be considered.
Educational Qualification
Candidates will require different educational qualification for different posts. For joining the Indian Army, a candidate is required to have cleared 10 + 2 from a school which has been recognized by the Government of India.
On the other hand, candidates who are looking forward to join the Indian Air Force or the Indian Navy will have to clear 10 + 2 with Physics and Mathematics as a part of the curriculum. Likewise in the above case, the result should come from a school which has been recognized by the Government of India.
Physical Fitness Criteria
An additional criteria in the list is the physical fitness criteria. Each candidate is required to undergo this test and prove his fitness to the respective authority. The test is usually taken in Military Hospitals and a candidate should be not suffering from any serious ailments. Some of the permitted ailments include:

| Piles | Deviated Nasal Septum | Varicocele |
There are also some additional requirements for the candidates who wish to be a part of the Indian Air Force. They are:

| Leg length | 99.00 cm – 120.00 cm |
| Thigh Length | 64.00 cm (maximum) |
