Election Commission Announcement on Elections
On March 4 2016, the Election Commission declared the schedule for Assembly Polls in 1 union territory and 4 states. The regions include, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Puducherry (UT), West Bengal and Kerala . The election of the above mentioned states and union territory will take place in between April 4 to May 16, 2016. The counting of the same would be done on May 19 2016. The announcement was made by the Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, who declared that election in West Bengal would take place in six phases, whereas election in Assam would take place in two phases. For other three states, namely, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, election would take place in a single phase only.
President Pranab Mukherjee honors Indian Air Force
President Pranab Mukherjee presented President’s Colours to ED (Equipment Depot) & President’s Standard to 119 HU (Helicopter Unit) on March 4 2016. Both these divisions belong to the Indian Air Force and the ceremony took place in the province of Jamnagar in Gujarat . The eligibility of this award for The Indian Force Squadrons came after completing 18 years in the service and the selection was made by measuring the performance of the unit during ordinary day as well as war. The event also witnessed the release of commemorative postage stamp.
2-day National Conference of WL
From March 5 2016 onward, a 2-day National Conference of Women Legislator will be held in New Delhi , India. The theme of this event is ‘Building Resurgent India’ and the conference has been organized by the Parliament of India. President Pranab Mukherjee too expressed his expressed his support by inaugurating the conference and allowing Shirin Chaudhury of Bangladesh to be the Chairperson. The objective of this conference is to educate the participants with right knowledge about socio-economic growth along with developing the prospects of good governance. The event also witnessed the presence of Indian PM, Narendra Modi.
IIT Professor Sirshendu De elected for Innovation Award 2016
The Head of the Chemical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Sirshendu De was selected as a contestant for the Innovation Award 2016. Prof. De has prepared a low cost arsenic water filter which can transform arsenic contaminated water into safe drinking water within matter of seconds. The award is given by IDA (Indian Desalination Association) and intends to acknowledge those people who have valuable contributions to the society. The development of Prof. De is capable of nullifying the impact of arsenic material in water upto 32mg in every litre.
Team India clinches the Asia Cup for the 6 th Time
On March 6 2016, Team Indian defeated Bangladesh in the finals of the Asia Cup to win the title for a record 6 th time. The final was played in Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. Mirpur, where Bangaldesh scored 120 runs in 15 overs at the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, Team India scored the required runs with 6 balls to spare and 8 wickets in hand. The Man of the Match Award was given to Shikhar Dhawan for his knock of 60 runs in 40 balls.
