Setu Bharatam Project launched by PM
March 4 2016 witnessed the launch of Setu Bharatam by the PM of India, Narendra Modi. The projects looks into the prospect of making national highways free from Railway crossing. The deadline set for this project is 2019 and within the given time frame 208 rail over bridge would be built across the nation at an estimated cost of INR 10, 200 crores. Some of the key states where the development would talk place includes Andhra Pradesh (33), West Bengal (22) and Bihar (20).
Purno Agitok passed away
One of the former Lok Sabha Speakers, Purno Agitok passed away on March 4 2016 at the age of 68 years. In 1995, Purno became the first person from a tribe to hold the designation of a Cabinet Minister. His lesser known careers are lecturer, lawyer and journalist, which he used to practice before he joined politics. In 2013, he founded a new party by the name of NPP (National People’s Party) which symbol has been a book. During the phase of 1988-1990, he was the CM of Meghalaya.
New York unveils World’s Costliest Train
On March 3 2016, New York unveiled the World’s Costliest Train with the WTC Transportation Hub. The train is expected to serve more than 2, 00, 000 daily passengers, the train has been engineering over the past 12 years and represents America’s intent to continue to with their routine life, irrespective of the 9/11 terror attack. The initial budget of the project was USD 2 billion, but the same extended to USD 3.85 billion in the end.
Ashok Ghosh passed away
The leader of All-Indian Forward Bloc, Ashok Ghosh passed away on March 3 2016 at the age of 93 years in Kolkata. He was the head of the Forward Bloc for a record time of six decades. The party was initially formed by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in 1939. Born on July 2 1923, Ashok Ghosh had a motivated career under Netaji and joined the party in 1941. In 1951, he was elected as the Secretary of party and had served for a period of 60 years.
National Safety Week
National Safety Week was observed in all over India during this week. The objective of this week is to create an awareness about road crossing and obeying traffic rules in India. Each year thousands of people lose their life in road accidents and transport service too gets hampered with the same. The National Safety Week is a self-governing program that gives the people to associate themselves with a good cause and improve the overall traffic rule compliance in India.
Blue Dot Intiative by UNICEF and UNHCR
UNICEF and UNHCR recently launched a campaign named as Blue Dot on February 26 2016. Under this campaign, 20 hubs were created to support families who have been displaced in war and have used the migration route to Europe. The purview of this initiative includes offering medical treatment as well as helping families to overcome the mental torture.
